When I first met Dick Watt we had just opened our doors here at Hacienda Children’s and Dick was attending an event we had for the community. Dick approached me during the event with tears in his eyes and said he would love to come and play music for our patients. I could immediately sense what a tender heart he had and promised that once we had our volunteer program ready, that I would contact him.
Fast forward another month. I was speaking at a community event and there he was. Dick approached me again to remind me of his request, and again I promised that we would let him know as soon as we had the volunteer program set up.
Thankfully Carmen Galindo, our Administrative Assistant, is amazing and was willing to lead our volunteer program! Once we had it ready, Dick was here right away and WOW – he is amazing!
Dick is such an amazing man, he sings, plays music, and plays with our patients. He sees the patients as individuals and will do whatever it takes to make each patient smile.
Recently we had a little boy here. He was eight years old and did not speak English. Despite not speaking the same language, it wasn’t long before Dick had this little boy laughing. Not just a little bit, but big belly laughs!
In January, I received an envelope from Dick’s church, King of Glory. I learned that Dick had recommended Hacienda Children’s as a recipient of their Christmas donations. Because of Dick, we received $1,265 in cash and gift cards.
To say we have been blessed by Dick is an understatement – he is truly one of the sweetest, most selfless men I have ever met and we all so appreciate every minute he is here.
